State Route 34 begins just west of Franklin at the Georgia–Alabama line and ends at the junction with SR 54 in eastern Coweta County, just west of Peachtree City. The portion extending east from Newnan is a four-lane parkway. Its bypass is Georgia State Route 34 Bypass. In Newnan it joins with SR 16 for a few miles from the intersection of Temple Avenue with Franklin Highway/Hospital Road, to the Posey Place crossover between Jackson and Jefferson streets downtown, some distance north of Newnan's Court Square.

State Route 34 Bypass is a 29.8-mile (48.0 km) bannered route from 20 miles (32 km) west of Newnan to the east side of the town. The route bypasses SR 34 in Coweta County. There are many small back roads reconnecting it to SR 34 (Temple Avenue in Newnan).
Route 34 Bypass starts at State Route 34 west of Newnan. It then intersects with US 27 and State Route 16. A few miles later, it serves as the northern terminus of SR 70. SR 34 Bypass then intersects with US 29. It ends at State Route 34 east of Newnan at the town's shopping mall, The Forum at Ashley Park.
